Located 120 kilometres away from Gangtok and at an altitude of approximately 8,610 feet above sea-level, Lachung is a loved-on destination. This town is a common stop for tourists heading towards North Sikkim destinations like Yumthang Valley, Zero Point, and Katao Valley.
How to Get to Lachung?
The road via Phodong, Mongan, and Chungthang leads to the North Sikkim Highway to reach here.
It will take you 6–8 hours from Gangtok to reach Lachung. The time mostly depends on weather and road conditions.
Before planning your travel to Lachung, it is advisable to consult an expert travel agent like us. While gorgeous and exquisitely beautiful, it is seasonal. During the monsoon, the entire area becomes inaccessible due to heavy rains.
Also, it is difficult to visit in the winter months because the major routes are blocked from making way for heavy snow.
The journey from Lachen to Lachung will take you two hours and although the roads are broken at some sections, the view makes it worth it. Lachung, with its lush greens and a surreal feel, is also known as the peaceful green hamlet.
In this otherworldly village, it seems like time has stood still.
It is a lovely image to see. Wild flowers always grow in clumps, which are rarely beautified, yet still bloom.
Most Beautiful Town In Sikkim
Joseph Dalton Hooker in “The Himalayan Journal” called Lachung the “most picturesque village of Sikkim.” Without a doubt, it is one of the most mesmerizing beautiful places of the world, which makes it a perfect destination for peaceful holidays.
Rustic vibes
Lachung is relatively warmer than Lachen so you can take nice walking tours and enjoy the rural ambience of the village. Apart from wildflowers and greenery, there are quite a lot of fruit orchards here as well as glacial rivers flowing through the centre of the hamlet that enhance the charm of Lachung.
If you have been straining the dirty air of bustling cities, then the clean, crisp, and chilly mountain air of Lachung will cleanse your lungs. You can probably ask your driver to recommend restaurants specializing in good Tibetan food while you are touring Lachung as well.
Lachung has all sorts of eateries that offer specialities such as Mixed Meat Noodle Soup, or Thukpa.
Monthly Weather and Temperature in Lachung
Good Summers (March–June)
The season of summer is the most joyful period in Lachung. Moderate temperatures are those that rise between 10 to 28 degrees Celsius. Summer usually starts in March and ends in May or mid-June. It is very comfortable to travel during these months, and you can see the maximum tourist attractions according to time.
If you love colourful landscape then summer is one of the best seasons to visit Lachung as the rhododendrons bloom all over the place. Beauty will enchant you.
Southwest Seasonal Monsoon Rainfall (July-September)
It begins in July and runs through September. The whole village is getting a lot of rain, and several places are blocked off or unreachable. It’s the off-season for tourists. Lachung, though, still attracts visitors during the monsoon season, as some are willing to roll the dice for the opportunity to see the waterfalls at their most glorious.
During monsoon season, the waterfalls in Lachung and the Lachung Chu River are both stunningly scenic. If you are not having any outside plan and not planning to go outside, you can still enjoy the monsoons coming up in Lachung.
Winters are majestic and pleasant (October to February)
Winters are long and cold in Lachung but not quite as frigid as they can get in Lachen. Winter begins in October and continues until mid-February or early-March. (Above: Temperature = -10 ~ -10 degrees Celsius). The scenery is beautiful in the winter, too.
The air is already cold and has recently been misty, crisp and frigid from snowfall.
