The History
Nathula Pass, located on the Old Silk Route and linking Sikkim to China, had been closed for more than four decades after the People’s Republic of China crushed a Tibetan uprising in 1959. The cross-border route was relaunched following a visit to China by former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003. Since its reopening in 2006, an official Border Personnel Meeting has been held at the Nathula Pass.

Who Can Come Here?
Nathula Pass is open only to Indian citizens holding active permits. Indian citizens can apply for a permit with the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation. You may entitle apply for when you book your Sikkim holidays through your Travel agency. Everyone who wants to join the tour should obtain the pass permission for INR. 200.
