Momos – The evergreen Momo that reached to whole India was already an integral part of Sikkim’s delicacies before it became popular. These Tibetan dumplings are made from a thin dough stuffed with different fillings (think minced meat, vegetables, cheese and even chocolate). Momos are most commonly steamed or fried, served with a spicy chili sauce or a sour dip called a chutney. It’s a sinfully good treat for both the locals and the tourists.

 

Thukpa – Thukpa is a noodle soup, a dish which is comforting and flavourful, and perfect for the cool mountain weather. It is prepared with boiled noodles, a rich broth, and vegetables. Meat or seafood. It is really common with locals and usually topped with fresh herbs and dish out steaming hot, totally a hearty and comfortable meal.

 

Gundruk and Sinki – These fermented leafy greens are specific to Sikkim and are used widely in the local food. Gundruk is fermented leafy greens such as spinach or mustard leaves and Sinki is made from the fermentation of radish. The dishes are tangy and 微酸的 (wei suan de) when eaten, and are used as a garnish on top of these dishes or added to stews and soups for a unique flair.

 

Chhurpi – A Sikkimese cheese produced from yak's milk. For a smooth pulse, rock hard, cheese means good snack, or yummy, side dishes etc., also pretty good to be grinded in a food processor to make butter, вязsу great to eat raw.

 

Sha Phaley – A delicious street food snack similar to savoury deep-fried bread stuffed with spices, minced meat and vegetables. The exterior part of the bread is crusty and has a tasty filling inside. Served with the same chutney or spicy chili dip as the momos, it is a favorite with both locals and tourists.

 

Sel Roti - This is a traditional Nepali sweet food, generally prepared in festive time and for celebrations. You are well aware that this is a crispy outer layers with a soft and slightly sweet interior kind of deep-fried rice flour bread. Sel Roti, popular in Himalyian region, is one such recipe, served with a hot cup of tea or as a dessert, for a sweet tooth treat.

 

Chhang – A traditional Sikkimese liquor that is produced from fermented millet or rice. One fo the most common and loved drink among the locals especially during festivities and social gatherings. Chhang has a unique flavor and is usually consumed in traditional bamboo containers known as "tongbas." This is a very refreshing and healthy drink, which is an insight into the cultural traditions of Sikkim.

 

Dal Bhat - Yet another one of the traditional dish that rules the heart and stomach of the people of Sikkim. Its a meal of dal and bhat (steamed rice) which is yummy. Dal bhat is a go-to meal in several parts of India, but this Sikkimese take sports a signature turn. In addition, dal bhat is of large cultural significance in Sikkim as it is eaten on holidays, gatherings, and day to day meals.
