Zigzagging through the eastern Himalayas is Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. This sleepy hill town, one of the largest centers of Buddhism, is surrounded by stunning natural beauty on all sides, one highlighted by stunning views of the snow-capped Mount Kanchenjunga. From here, visiting Sikkim’s Buddhist monasteries and high-altitude lakes and passes is also easy. Gangtok also has many famous Places to Visit.
1.Cleanliness
Apart from dining and traditions, the people of Gangtok are conscious about their environment. They have given daily life order and clean roadways, sidewalks and other public workspaces. For one, there are dustbins everywhere, at every coffee shop in the neighbourhoods or in the monasteries and whatnot, and people actually use them, unlike some parts in India where there’s a fun involved in throwing stuff around.
2.Music
There's no way around the assorted billboards advertising upcoming live music shows by bands at nightclubs, lounge-bars and cafés as you move from one destination to the next. Some music stores sell used instruments that are a lot cheaper but still of good quality. Moreover, joining music classes helps you train professionally.
3.Food
As with everywhere else in India, food in Gangtok is no joke. You can love that there is a lovely café down almost every street in which to curl up and watch the world go by outside. And outside of the popular Momos and Thukpa, we’d recommend sampling Pakku, a Nepali mutton curry; Kinema, a soybean curry; and Chhurpi, a traditional cottage cheese, all of which is served with rice. As well as serving you up local cuisine, they will make your coffee and sandwich exactly to your specifications.
4.People
Because of a very kind and helpful population, this is a city I will visit. They offer you a place to stay when you visit, guide you when you get lost, and are always willing to take you around. The citizens of Gangtok certainly know how to do it right, as Hazrat Inayat Khan had said, “Some people look for a beautiful place, others make a place beautiful.”
5.Dresses
The north-east Indians have a liberating sense of style, which every woman is often in awe of. Hence, it became rather fond of female casualness. The way they wore their skirts, jumpsuits and jeans just bowled me over. After a while in the city you would be convinced to learn the shops they shop at We are sure, If you ask anyone, they will be happy to unveil the secret for you.
How to get there
The nearest airport, Bagdogra, is located about 125 kilometres away.
New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri is the nearest railway station and is 117 miles away.
Several state buses run from Bagdogra and Siliguri to Gangtok. You can choose to book cabs or private buses from both the locations.
Reaching Gangtok As per Sikkim Tourism Department, Daily Helicopter Service is available from Bagdogra to Gangtok, which can be a bit expensive but still an interesting start for your holiday.
It's also a good place to visit alone, especially for solo travellers. Use a taxi to get around town or just walk a lot
